Who is V.C. Kincade?
V.C. Kincade is my pen name as an author in the erotic crime thriller genre. My background in tech and fascination with human psychology fuel my writing.
What inspired the "Morgan Blackburn"series?
The Morgan Blackburn series emerged from my fascination with power dynamics and the intersection of control in both professional and personal lives. I wanted to explore a character who maintains absolute control in her professional life as a detective, while also examining how that need for control manifests in her private life through D/s relationships.
What are the main themes of Command + Control?
At its heart, this is a story about control—who has it, who wants it, and what happens when it starts to slip away. I wanted to write a noir thriller that didn’t shy away from exploring complex power dynamics while avoiding the typical tropes of the “damaged female cop” or the “ice queen” stereotype. Blackburn isn’t damaged—she’s competent, controlled, and unapologetic about who she is and what she wants.
How do you balance the erotic elements with the crime thriller aspects?
Like any good hacker, it’s all about finding the right entry point and maintaining tension throughout.
Are your books based on real experiences?
While I draw inspiration from the world around me, my stories are purely fictional. Any resemblance to real persons or events is entirely coincidental.
How much research goes into your books?
Extensive research is crucial for authenticity. However, I’ll leave it to your imagination to decide which parts required the most… hands-on investigation.
Will there be more books after "Command + Control"?
Yes. I am planning two more books to finish the Morgan Blackburn arc. After that? Well, never say never.
Do you have a background in computer science?
No, I don’t have a formal background in computer science, but I’ve spent considerable time researching autonomous vehicles and AI systems to ensure accuracy in the series. The technical aspects of the Stan Raider Group’s autonomous vehicles and their crime prediction software are grounded in current technology and near-future possibilities. Maybe I should change the genre to horror.
Do you write in other genres?
No, I primarily focus on the noir thriller genre. I’m captivated by the darker aspects of human nature, complex characters, and intricate plots that keep readers on the edge of their seats. The “Morgan Blackburn” series allows me to delve deep into themes of power, control, and desire, which are central to my storytelling style. While I enjoy reading a variety of genres, my passion lies in crafting thrilling narratives that explore the complexities and nuances of the human experience.
Will we see you at book signings or conventions?
I prefer to maintain a low profile. My characters do enough socializing for both of us.
